I'm curious, not for the benefit of my company, but for the well being of ostomates everywhere: why isn't stoma protection recommended for everyone by the medical community? It puzzles me that we are left with this stoma unprotected, which is to a degree "sensitive", compared to the rest of our body. While other surgeries get casts, crutches, wheelchairs to allow the wound to heal, I suppose the medical community treats our stoma as "healed"? I think this is why insurance coverage for stoma protective devices is non existent to date. So those of us with a stoma (ileostomy, colostomy, or urostomy) are left in a conundrum, and looking for answers: How to protect our stoma?
